One of the most interesting budget laptops on the market today is the 15.6-inch Dell Inspiron I15RV-1430. It stands out with its thin design, a power-saving ultra-low voltage processor, and an inexpensive price tag of $320.
Hidden inside the 1″ thin chassis of the Windows 8-based I15RV-1430 is the Intel Pentium 2117Ufrom the latest generation of Intel’s entry ULV chips. On this page, you can see how the 2117U performs against similar CPUs. It is fairly capable for daily web and office tasks and multimedia. The processor helped by usual 4GB of RAM memory and decently spacious 500GB hard disk. Dell has managed to cram a DVD burner into this sleek chassis made of textured fingerprint resistant matte plastics, but there wasn’t enough space for a standard six-cell battery. Instead, the notebook packs a 4-cell unit. Given the processor is made with power efficiency in mind, the battery life should be decent and at least similar to those on the 6-cell powered notebooks with standard processors.
If you are a gamer, don’t expect any graphics muscle out of its Intel HD integrated graphics. It is adequate just for 2D games and for managing the 720p display of the Dell I15RV-1430. The hardware, on the other side, fully supports 1080p full HD video playback and paired with the HDMI video output, the notebook is quite satisfactory entertainment-wise.
While we are at ports, let’s mention that the system has two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 connectors. The first pair can be used for connecting USB 3.0 compatible devices, such as external hard drives and memory sticks, for ultimate data transfer speeds. You can also store files on a memory card and read files from it thanks to a built-in 8-in-1 media card reader.
Built-in Wi-Fi and Etnernet LAN connections are included for effortless connecting to Internet and the I15RV-1430 has Bluetooth to hook up your Bluetooth earphones or sync data between the laptop and a smartphone. Video chats are enabled by built-in 720p web camera and microphone.
The whole system weighs a shade over 5 pounds, down from about 5.5 of average full-thickness laptops with 6-cell batteries.
Overall, the Dell Inspiron I15RV-1430 is a model which can slip easier into your bag and is easier to tote around than its thicker and heavier 15.6-inch counterparts, while still delivering good everyday performance and an admirable feature set at the low 320-dollar price point. It’s a great investment for students and home users who don’t need a gaming laptop or a machine for intensive tasks such as heavy video editing or running engineering software.
This configuration can be currently purchased only via Best Buy, but you can find other similar I15RV (also known as 15 3521) configurations elsewhere too.
