The Proscan PLT8088 is the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean tablet, produced by Proscan which is well known for its affordable HDTVs. Sold for only $70, the PLT8088 is the cheapest Android slate with an 8-inch 3:4 display, a form factor similar to the iPad mini.
However, the screen resolution of this capacitive multi-touch panel is not as high as on the iPad mini and the processor isn’t as fast. The tablet has 800×600 pixel count and runs on the Rockchip RK2906 1GHz CPU with help of 512MB of RAM.
You can see how this chip runs on a 7″ tablet in the video below and you can expect similar performance on the Proscan PLT8088 too. The system supports hardware-decoded 1080p video playback.
Other important features are 4GB of internal storage, which you can expand via the microSD card slot, a 0.3MP web camera on the front, 802.11n Wi-Fi, a gravity sensor, mini USB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Regarding software, it’s worth noting that the Proscan doesn’t have access to Google Play store, but you can use includes SlideMe app store application or install them via APK file manager.
The Proscan has dimensions of 8.1″ x 6.6″ x 0.45″, but there’s no info on weight nor the included battery.
You can buy the tablet now for the given price via Walmart.com.
