Kmart will be selling the X-Treme Mach Speed (Model# ECLIPSE-X-TREME) 7-inch Android ICS 4.0 tablet on Black Friday Thanksgiving day at almost unbelievable price of $39.99. That’s the cheapest price for a 7″ tablet ever on the US market. One would expect that a tablet at a $40 price point barely works and has too many shortcomings, but that definitely isn’t a case here. True, there are disadvantages as expected: resistive single-touch touchscreen technology which needs finger pressure for input as opposed to multitouch capacitive tech, a single-core processor, and absence of Google Play app store.
According to the product specifications sheet at Kmart, the screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels which is too good to be true and icons on the pictured tablet don’t look like displayed on a full HD display, so it’s probably a mistake. The processor is a single core one, but it runs at relatively high 1.2GHz for the tablet class. The CPU model is the Allwinner Cortex A10 with Mali 400 graphics processor.
The list of other important features consists of 512MB of RAM, 4GB of memory for storing files, microSD storage expansion, Wi-Fi, a front 0.3MP camera, stereo speakers, and a four-cell battery good for “up to 9 hours” of run time. Regarding sensors, the X-Treme Mach Speed has only gyroscope, according to the specs.
The device is a half an inch thick and weighs 0.5 pounds.
