Call of Duty Vanguard sells 40% less in the UK compared to the previous game

Activision’s enduring “goose that lays the golden eggs” may be showing signs of slowing down.

UK sales data show that Call of Duty: Vanguard sold 40% less than the previous week’s release week, a big drop.

The drop in sales was not only registered in the traditional physical format, where there was a drop of 26%, there was also a decrease in the digital format, in the order of 44%.

Even with this drop, Call of Duty Vanguard managed to become the second biggest launch of 2021 in the UK, just behind FIFA 22 (which has been happening regularly).

It’s still early to say with certainty that the Call of Duty series is reaching the point of fatigue, this in terms of sales. However, in terms of reviews, Call of Duty Vanguard has almost the same score as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on Metacritic.

A possible reason for the lower sales could lie with Call of Duty: Warzone, which remains highly popular. Warzone mode is free and you don’t need to buy a new game every year to enjoy it.

Other than that, Call of Duty has more competition this year than last year, namely Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite.
